Privacy policy

Code Crosswalk is a daily puzzle site for people learning medical coding and billing, operated by Code Crosswalk. This page describes what the site collects, why it holds it, and how to get rid of it. It covers codecrosswalk.com and nothing else.
What is collected
If you play without an account, nothing about you is stored. Guesses are checked by the server and discarded. No score, no history, no cookie beyond what is needed to serve the page.
If you create an account, the site stores:
- Your email address, because it is how you sign in and the only way to reach you about your account.
- Your name as your sign-in provider reports it, if you sign in with Google. This is never shown to other users. It is offered to you as a suggested display name when you first sign in, and is otherwise unused.
- Your display name, which you choose. This is public — see below.
- Your play record: which puzzles you started and finished, your scores, how long you took, hints used, and your streak.
- Which terms you have seen recently, so that practice puzzles space out repeats rather than showing you the same words.
No payment card details are held by this site. If and when paid subscriptions launch, card handling will be done by Stripe and this page will be updated before that happens.
What is public
Leaderboards show your display name, score and finishing time to anyone who visits, signed in or not. Nothing else is published. Your email address and the name from your sign-in provider are never shown to other users.
You choose your display name before you play, and you can change it at any time on your account page. If you have no display name set, you appear as “Anonymous”.
Cookies
One cookie, used to keep you signed in. There is no advertising, no analytics service, no tracking pixel and no third-party script that follows you anywhere. Fonts are served from Google Fonts, which means Google receives a request from your browser when a page loads.
Who else sees it
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google, under Google’s own privacy policy.
- Resend, which delivers sign-in links by email. It receives your email address in order to send them.
- Stripe, if paid subscriptions launch and you buy one.
Nothing is sold, rented, or shared for advertising. Data may be disclosed if required by law.
How long it is kept
Account data is kept until you ask for it to be deleted. Practice puzzles are deleted about 30 days after they are generated. Daily puzzles and the scores attached to them are kept, because the leaderboards are cumulative.
Getting your data, or deleting it
Email hello@codecrosswalk.com and ask. You can request a copy of what is held about you, a correction, or deletion of your account and everything attached to it. Deleting your account removes your leaderboard entries.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or state privacy laws such as the CCPA. The same address handles those requests.
Children
This site is aimed at adults studying or working in medical coding and billing. It is not directed at children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. There are no passwords to steal: sign-in is by emailed link or through Google. No system is perfectly secure, and no promise to the contrary is made here.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that materially affects what is collected or who sees it, the change will be announced on the site before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
